PUNE: Several volunteers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from Pune have been making regular visits to Mumbai to campaign for the party's candidates contesting from the Mumbai region, where polling is slated on Thursday.
Volunteers in Pune are not reimbursed for their services, but they remain undeterred. Many volunteers who have been to Mumbai are for campaigning. They are adopting affordable means of campaigning that are low on financial resources, but high on human resources.
"As soon as the elections in Pune got over, I decided to start campaigning in Mumbai for our candidates. I started with Thane railway station where I distributed pamphlets and wore the AAP apron and communicated with many voters," Amit Khandelwal, a chartered accountant from Pune, said.
"I am campaigning for our party in Mumbai. Last weekend, along with other volunteers from Pune, I campaigned in the slums of Mumbai," Vaibhav Patel, another volunteer from the city, said. Patel, an engineer in a Hinjewadi-based firm, returned from Australia five months ago and started working for the party.
Subhash Ware, AAP's Pune candidate, said, "We are nothing without our volunteers. When we started our campaign in Pune, we were a mere 500 people, but the size doubled soon. They have visited slums, boarded local trains and buses and communicated with thousands to spread our message."
